G ranbury is a unique little Texan city that enjoys the Southern life. The city is located in Hood county, a county that is steeped in historical lore and tradition. The city is known for its historical downtown area, and has been recognized by the "National Register of Historic Places" as one of the best places in the nation preserving the old west culture and folklore. "The Texas Highway Magizine" has recognized Granbury as having the number one historical square in Texas. Granbury has that old Texas charm and rich tradition.

Granbury was incorporated in 1866, with the help of Davie Crockett's wife and family who settled there after his death at the Alamo. Since its inception, the city of Granbury has worked at keeping its historical tradition alive while moving toward the future. Modern housing developments have been completed in the last few years to keep up with the many visitors who latter decide to relocate to Granbury. Employment opportunities are diverse and plentiful in Granbury, while the average house is selling at around $190,000. These factors have made Granbury a major relocation area.

Granbury attracts many visitors yearly and is a major tourist location. Besides its historical presence, Granbury hugs a beautiful lake that includes over 33 miles of shoreline offering lots of recreational fun. Camping and log cabins dot the shore, as well as lakeside retreats with decks overlooking the pristine water. Excellent fishing is another draw for visitors. The area of Granbury is also famous for its quaint bed and breakfasts and homemade ice cream parlors.

Although being close to the larger cities of Waco, Franklin and Dallas/Fort Worth, Granbury definitely has its own personality. Granbury has many antique shops, arts and crafts boutiques, Native American artwork and a mall. One thing that Granbury has that no other city in Texas has, is Acton Park, the smallest state park. Granbury has over five championship golf courses. There is also an opera house with performances offered throughout the year. Many fine restaurants await discovery throughout this community.

The school district is responsive and rated well in Granbury. The Granbury Independent School District encompasses 11 schools and serves 6269 students. The State of Texas acknowledged the district with a Gold Performance Acknowledgement for the outstanding performance of the high school program. The district outperforms the state average in all three categories of reading, writing and math on the TAKS exam (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills).

Granbury has steadily become a relocation hot spot due to its proximity to larger cities while keeping its historical tradition and small town ambiance. Its housing costs are very affordable and unemployment in the area is refreshingly low. There are many things to do in the surrounding areas including taking in major sporting events with NHL, NFL, NBA and college teams. All these things have added to Granbury's appeal and make it an excellent place to raise a family.
